Patient Rights & Responsibilities

PATIENT RIGHTS:
 (Law 2071/Government Gazette 123/92 vol. A / article 47)
  • The patient has the right to access the hospital services most appropriate for the nature of their illness.
  • The patient has the right to receive care with the respect owed to human dignity. This care includes not only medical and nursing services, but also paramedical services, appropriate accommodation, suitable treatment, and efficient administrative and technical support.
  • The patient has the right to consent or refuse any diagnostic or therapeutic act to be performed on them. In the case of a patient with partial or total mental incapacity, this right is exercised by the person legally acting on their behalf.
  • The patient is entitled to request information regarding their condition.
The patient’s best interest is crucial and depends on the completeness and accuracy of the information provided. The information should enable the patient to form a full understanding of the medical, social, and economic parameters of their condition and to make decisions themselves or participate in decision-making that may affect their future life.
  • The patient, or their representative in the case of paragraph 3, has the right to be fully and in advance informed about any risks that may arise from the application of unusual or experimental diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. These procedures may only be carried out after the patient’s explicit consent, which may be revoked at any time.
  • The patient must feel completely free in deciding whether to accept or refuse any cooperation for research or educational purposes. Their consent for any such participation is their right and may be revoked at any moment.
  • The patient has the right, insofar as it is feasible and under real conditions, to the protection of their private life. The confidential nature of the information and the content of documents concerning them, including medical notes and findings, must be guaranteed.
  • The patient has the right to respect and recognition of their religious and ideological beliefs.
  • The patient has the right to submit complaints and objections to the competent authorities and to receive full information about the actions taken and the resulting outcomes.
PATIENT OBLIGATIONS:
  • The patient is obliged to inform the medical and nursing staff about any medication they may have been taking before admission and to cooperate honestly.
  • For any complaint, the patient and their relatives must address the responsible supervisors as well as the Citizen Liaison Office operating within the Hospital.
  • The stay of relatives and friends in the wards should be brief and not overcrowded, and bringing children should be avoided.
  • Companions who remain in the wards with special permission must maintain cleanliness. They should not sit on patients’ beds, place flowers in the wards, or bring food, soft drinks, or coffee, as these can become sources of microbial contamination.
  • Companions and visitors must avoid causing noise, as patients need calm and quiet.
  • Do not bring valuables or large amounts of money with you.
  • Be consistent with your scheduled appointments and do not leave the wards without permission.
  • Always have with you your health and insurance booklet, past examination results, and any relevant documents (information sheets, instructions, etc.).
  • If you are insured or hold a welfare booklet, your hospitalization is covered by your insurance fund or by the State.
  • If you are uninsured, you must pay your hospitalization costs directly and only at the Patients’ Accounting Office, which will issue the corresponding receipt.
  • Giving payment to any person for any reason is illegal and offensive to the employees themselves.
  • Patients and their companions, upon admission, must provide the necessary personal details and information requested by the medical and nursing staff.
  • Smoking is strictly prohibited in all areas of the Hospital.
